Surgery for Anorectal Abscess

  • Marc Singer
  • Shmuel Avital

The treatment for perianal abscesses is incision and drainage. This involves opening the skin overlying the abscess to let the pus drain out. Small abscesses with minimal symptoms may occasionally be treated with a course of antibiotics. Treatment of fistulas or other associated anorectal pathology is deferred until after the infection has been adequately treated.
