Abstract
Fecal incontinence is defined as the involuntary loss of rectal contents (feces, gas) through the anal canal and the inability to postpone an evacuation. Fecal incontinence is very common, estimated prevalence rates are 2–3 with a female/male ratio of 63/37%, with 30% being older than 65 years of age. Incontinence should be evaluated using an incontinence score to evaluate the severity of the condition and the improvement following any kind of treatment. An acceptable incontinence scoring system is the Wexner incontinence score.
