Abstract
Chapter 2 defines Hollywood and identifies its global primacy in the global entertainment landscape within economic terms. Hollywood is analyzed drawing on Porter’s “five forces of competition” theoretical framework. After quantifying and defining Hollywood’s leadership, the analysis focuses on the US entertainment sector’s value chain, its business practices, and its major historical evolutions in the twentieth century.
