Abstract
Despite the advances in medical imaging, most of the decision making involved in hip pathology is based on a detailed history and physical examination. Although our understanding of hip pathology continues to evolve, accurate diagnosis of hip pathology often continues to be challenging. Pathologies originating from the hip, low back, lower abdomen, thigh, and knee can have similar presenting symptoms; therefore a thorough history and physical exam are essential. Using a thoughtful and methodical approach, an accurate differential diagnosis can most often occur.
