Abstract
A natural science teacher has a national curriculum to follow, but she or he can feel free to choose the methods to work with. The aims are to explain nature scientifically. This article shows how “leavening” process can be introduced at the primary school by means of simple experimental classroom work. The directives from The Swedish National Agency for Education state that the students should strive for developing their knowledge about different organisms and their requirements, by own experience. Keeping curiosity alive is also basic.
Yeast is easy to work with, gives quick results and allows discussions about basic needs of living organisms.
