Abstract
We devote this chapter to a description of the setting in which we will study, in Chapter 12, model reduction problems. These will include approximation in Hankel norm as well as approximation by balanced truncation. Since optimization is involved, we choose to work in rational Hardy spaces. This fits with our focus on finite-dimensional linear systems.
