A Josephson Voltage Standard Using a Superconducting Loop Containing Multiple Junctions

Abstract

A voltage standard and microwave radiation detector using a series array of Josephson junctions are proposed1. In a superconducting closed loop containing several junctions, the phase differences across the junctions depend on each other because of the condition of flux quantization. It is expected that a loop with parallel dc bias of two series arrays will enable us to reduce the difference between the operating conditions due to the junction param-meter spread2. This paper reviews the voltage-current characteristics of the superconducting closed loop and the coherent behavior of the junctions in this loop.
