Liquid Hydrogen Pumping for Hydrogen Targets

Abstract

Forced circulation of liquid hydrogen through hydrogen targets is necessary when the geometry and heat load exceed the capacity of normal convection systems. Three small pumps, one centrifugal and two positive displacement, were built for that purpose. Hydrogen flows of one-half to two liters/min were attained while the pressure head developed was 10 to 40 ft of liquid hydrogen.
