Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a condition affecting around 2% of the population and accounting for almost 10% of visits to G.P.s (Logan and Cushion, 1958). Two-thirds of those affected are women and although RA can affect people of any age it most commonly strikes in the early-middle years and post-menopausally (in women).
