The MIT Implementation of PI

Abstract

The original implementation of PI was carried out by a team of theory students working at the MIT Laboratory for Computer Science. This chapter presents an assortment of information about this work. Section 9.1 explains the major objectives of the MIT PI Project. Section 9.2 describes the major decisions made in the design of the MIT PI System, and section 9.3 discusses some of the implications of these decisions. Section 9.4 provides detailed information about the software development of PI at MIT, explains how to obtain source code, describes the role of each member of the PI team, and lists all documentation on the PI Project.
