Abstract
When medical people work with infertile couples, the best time to raise the question of when to say enough is right at the beginning. We must let people know that treatment may or may not be successful, although it may be awkward for either partner or the medical team to bring up the subject. It seems to work well if we say to the couple, “If at some point in treatment you are feeling tired of it, or you want a break, you are questioning it, please let me know. If, as we go along, the outlook does not look hopeful, you are welcome to bring up the possibility of taking a vacation, or beginning to look at stopping treatment.”
