Abstract

Information is stored and retrieved in magnetic disk storage devices through heads carried on sliders which fly over rotating disks. Detailed description of such devices is given in the book [1] of B. Bhushan from which also Figure 14.1–14.3 below are taken. Figure 14.1 shows the rotating disk with a slider which moves back and forth in a linear fashion; the head moves over the tracks of the disk with zero skew. Figure 14.2 shows a similar device with rotational motion of the arm.
