Abstract

Acupuncture has a functionally important and practically expanding role to play in the treatment of a variety of addiction disorders. Much of the serious attention recently given to acupuncture has been in relation to its use in treatment of substance abuse. Indeed, it appears that 20 years of success in treatment of substance abuse may prove more effective in creating paths to institutional acceptance of acupuncture in America than all the successes of the previous 20 centuries.
