Abstract
In this chapter we develop the structure theory of the general semisimple Lie algebra over ℂ (the Weyl-Chevalley normal form) and bring the complete classification of semisimple Lie algebras (after W. Killing and E. Cartan). — Throughout g is a complex Lie algebra, of dimension n, semisimple from §2.3 on. The concepts from linear algebra employed are described briefly in the Appendix.
