Theory of Thermodynamic Properties and Phase Separation of Self-Associating Micellar Solutions

  • Chapter
Micellar Solutions and Microemulsions

Abstract

The need to develop a new theoretical framework to study the thermodynamic properties and the phenomena of phase separation of micellar solutions is discussed. Accordingly, we have recently developed a thermodynamic theory that is capable of describing self-consistently the single-phase equilibrium properties and the phase separation of two-component amphiphile-water micellar solutions. In this chapter, we review the results of our theory and the comparison of these results with experimental findings in micellar solutions.
