Abstract
Reactive microwave elements are utilized in impedance matching and for construction of other devices such as filters. These reactive elements can be obtained by the introduction of physical discontinuities in an otherwise uniform waveguide. The discontinuity is designed to perturb predominantly either the electric or the magnetic field within the structure depending upon the type of reactance desired.
