Abstract

The European bone marrow transplantation group (EBMTG) which was born from the initiative of a few individuals in 1974 has since these early days considerably increased to a point where it now embraces a total of 600 physicians and scientists from 105 centres throughout Europe, who report annually their data for computer analysis. Scientific analysis within the EBMTG are conducted by 5 separate working parties: aplastic anemia, leukemias, immunology and bone marrow transplantation (BMT) inborn errors, and autologous bone marrow transplantation (ABMT). In the past decade, the EBMTG has published several interesting analysis (1,2) on the value of allogeneic BMT in aplastic anemia (AA) (3,4), acute leukemias (AL) (5,6,7) chronic myelocytic leukemia (CML) (8), lymphomas (9), myelomas (10) and immune deficiencies (ID). These analysis have produced results similar to those of the international bone marrow transplant registry (IBMTR) which combines data from Europe and the USA. (11,12,13,14,15,16).
