Abstract
As the surgeon dissects medially from the pterional exposure, he or she encounters a confluence of cisterns in the center of which is the chiasmatic cistern. The computed tomography (CT) scans with cerebral spinal fluid (CSF) contrast enhancement show the chiasmatic cistern and adjacent cisterns (Figs. 7.1 and 7.2). The carotid cisterns are lateral, the cistern of the lamina terminalis is behind and above, and the olfactory cisterns pass anterior to the chiasmatic cistern. The olfactory cistern lies between the gyrus rectus and medial orbital gyrus. In the midline between the frontal lobes is the pericallosal cistern and interhemispheric fissure (cistern).
