Abstract

When she regained her balance, Katie felt a warm, thick substance oozing from her lip. Groping in the direction of her mouth, she touched herself and then saw that her fingers were soaked with bright, red blood. Suddenly the pain came, first a far-away wave, and then sharp stabbing sensations all around her face. Katie began to sob. What had happened?
