Dispersive Bulk Parameters for Coherent Propagation in Correlated Random Distributions

Abstract

The wave scattered by a configuration of obstacles in response to an incident wave (with propagation parameter k) can be represented functionally in terms of the waves scattered by the individual obstacles in isolation [1]. For a statistically homogeneous ensemble of configurations, the ensemble averaged wave (the coherent field) specifies a composite medium with bulk parameters depending on the properties of the particles and embedding medium, on the value of k (hence dispersive), and on the statistics of the distribution of particles (their number concentration, pair correlations, etc.) [2].
