Abstract

The second “congress of mathematics” was to take place in 1924 in New York City; but in April 1922 the Americans - for reasons not stated in their Bulletin—withdrew in favor of Toronto. The departure from a decision made at Strasbourg was construed as the quiet beginning of a revolt against the IMU.
