Abstract

Chronic illness in a child is a diagnosis that affects the whole family. In this chapter, I review previous research into the effects of chronic illness on the child and the family. Wherever possible, the aim is to emphasize the extent to which knowledge of the disease and perceptions of its limitations determine a family’s coping style.
