Extragenital Endometriosis

  • Chapter
Book cover Endometriosis

Abstract

Nongenital endometriosis has been estimated to occur in 1% to 12% of patients with pelvic endometriosis.1 The most common sites are the intestine, urinary tract, distal areas in the abdominal cavity, extrapelvic genital structures, lung, skin, and nervous system. In fact, endometriosis has been reported in almost all body structures. That it can occur at these other sites must be considered by gynecologic surgeons treating patients with endometriosis. Extragenital disease can occur in the absence of visible pelvic disease.
