Abstract

Retinoids have revolutionized medical practice, especially in dermatologic disorders. A multitude of publications have demonstrated that retinoids have an extraordinary diversity of biologic effects. These include regulation of epidermal differentiation,1 increased synthesis of collagen,2 inhibition of tumor promotion,3 therapeutic antitumor effects on a variety of epithelial neoplasms,4–7 membrane integrity,7 and enhanced healing of cutaneous wounds.8
