The Esthetician’s Role in Skin Care

Women are becoming more and more involved in total skin care; in the United States alone, experts estimate that by 1995, retail sales of skin care products will be $4 billion.1 This figure includes mass merchant, department, drug, and grocery store sales but does not cover the estimated 280,000 skin care services provided every week in beauty and skin care salons. Research also indicates that more then 63 million adult women use facial moisturizers;2 and increasing numbers are using multiple-product regimens and spa facial services. Men also seek salon skin care services, although they still account for a small percentage of the total clientele.
