Gastric Operations: Specific Techniques

  • Chapter

Abstract

In the preceding chapter the important principles of technique, i.e., pouch size, channel size and support, partition strength, and the presence or absence of a gastrojejunostomy, which are common to some degree in all bariatric operations, were discussed. In this chapter the technical details of the operative procedure with which we have had the most experience and found the most effective—a modified Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (GBP)—will be described. A few of the more popular alternative operations will also be outlined.
