Overuse Syndromes

  • Eric L. Hume

The term “overuse” is misleading in that it implies the existence of a standardized definition of normal use; this obviously is not so. Normal use varies considerably from culture to culture, person to person, and even from time to time during the life span of an individual. “Overuse” in the context of this chapter will refer to injury resulting from excessive repetition of a common activity or performance of an activity to which an individual is not accustomed.
