Abstract
Stem erect to decumbent, small, or usually long-creeping and very slender, sometimes branched, protostelic, more or less indurated, bearing usually short trichomes; leaves small, sometimes minute (2–5 mm), or rarely to 2 m long, entire to pinnate, glabrous to pubescent, thin and lacking stomates, circinate in bud unless very small, petiole without stipules; sporangia borne in marginal sori on a short to elongate receptacle, enclosed by a bivalved to tubular indusium, with a short, ca. 6-rowed stalk, and an oblique annulus not interrupted by the stalk; homosporous, spores with chlorophyll (green). Gametophyte epigeal, with chlorophyll, narrowly thalloid or filamentous, freely branched, sometimes with gemmae, the archegonia borne on the lower surface or in clusters on a filamentous branch, the antheridia with ca. 5 to many cells, mostly on the lower surface or on filamentous branches.
