In this chapter, “function” will mean “function with domain and range both subsets of R ” . Thus, as in the case of Chapter VII, there are hidden hypotheses inasmuch as “ f is a function” has to be construed as “ f is a function and f ⊆ R × R ” or “ f is a function D → R for some D ⊆ R ”.
