Abstract
Second virial coefficients of two dimensional systems of He3 and He4 are calculated from 0.1K to 60.0K assuming a Lennard-Jones 6–12 interaction. The resultant specific heat is compared with measurements of helium monolayers adsorbed on graphite. The results strongly suggest that the usual peaks in the low-density heat capacity can be attributed solely to two particle interactions.

The method of extracting thermodynamic functions from the data is to be found in R. L. Elgin and D. L. Goodstein, Proc. 13th Int. Conf. Low Temp. Phys., Boulder, Colo. 1972, to be published.
The 0.027(Å)-2 He3 data is from E. O. McLean, Ph.D. dissertation, University of Washington (1972), unpublished. The rest is from Ref. 1 where they are denoted by coverages x = 0.39 for He3 and 0.255, 0.372 for He4.
The data in Figs. 4 and 5 which are in addition to that shown in Fig. 3 were taken by the University of Washington group.
