Second Virial Coefficients of Two-Dimensional Systems of He3 and He4

  • Chapter
Monolayer and Submonolayer Helium Films

Abstract

Second virial coefficients of two dimensional systems of He3 and He4 are calculated from 0.1K to 60.0K assuming a Lennard-Jones 6–12 interaction. The resultant specific heat is compared with measurements of helium monolayers adsorbed on graphite. The results strongly suggest that the usual peaks in the low-density heat capacity can be attributed solely to two particle interactions.
