Abstract

We have found that it is practical to evaluate fetal viability by ultrasound recording of the motion of the heart in utero. To date this has been accomplished in 30 patients. An electronic scanning device consisting of a linear array of 64 independent transducer segments is placed on the abdomen of the pregnant woman, and fetal heart motion is recorded on videotape.
