Testicular Androgen Binding Protein (ABP) — A Parameter of Sertoli Cell Secretory Function

  • Chapter

Part of the book series: Current topics in Molecular Endocrinology ((CTME,volume 2))

Abstract

It has become increasingly evident that many factors affecting spermatogenesis are mediated by the Sertoli cells that carry the developing germ cells in a close embracement during the most critical periods of spermatogenesis. Due to the vital importance of the Sertoli cells, increasing interest has been devoted to finding a biochemical index of Sertoli cell function. Testicular androgen binding protein is so far the only known specific product of Sertoli cells.
