Abstract

In Chapter 6, it is shown that the outputs of x-ray detectors of the types used on analytical x-ray spectrometers consist of series of pulses of electric current, one pulse for each photon detected. The pulses are randomly distributed in time. In Geiger counters, all these pulses have about the same amplitude (height). In proportional, scintillation, and Si(Li) detectors, the pulses have average amplitude proportional to the photon energy.
