Abstract

Nerves represent a favorite object of studies of ion transport across plasma membranes in the animal tissue. Transport of sodium and potassium ions is directly related to the specific function of the nerve fibers, viz., excitability and rapid information transfer within the animal body, the velocity of which may reach some 100 m·sec−1.
