Metabolism of Insecticides by Animals and Plants

  • Fumio Matsumura

Abstract

Organic compounds which do not belong in the category of fat, carbohydrate, protein, vitamin, steroid, or mineral are considered to be foreign to the body. Such foreign compounds are utilized on a vast scale by man as drugs, pesticides for agricultural use, additives to foods and fabrics, etc. It is important to know the fate of these chemicals within the animal body because organisms very often do eliminate them through various defense mechanisms.
