Several authors have demonstrated differences in the reactivity of antimacrophage sera with various types of macrophages (1, 2, 3, 4). Interest has been primarily focussed on alveolar and peritoneal macrophages. Some of the authors, however, have claimed to detect basic antigenic differences between free and fixed macrophages (1, 2).
