Abstract

The clinical problems associated with ruptured chordae tendineae of the mitral valve present in three ways: rupture of chordae to a posterior (mural) leaflet of the mitral valve which is otherwise of normal size, rupture of chordae to the anterior (aortic) leaflet, and chordal rupture associated with the redundant cusp (floppy valve) syndrome. Rupture of papillary muscles in myocardial infarction is not considered in this presentation.
