Hyperlipoproteinemia in Chronic Hemodialysis Patients and Long-Term Renal Transplant Recipients
Since 1968 (1) it has been known that lipoprotein abnormalities often develop in patients on maintenance hemodialysis (2,3) and in recipients of successful renal homo-transplants (3). As high as 50% mortality from premature cardiovascular disease has been reported in chronic dialysis patients. This report documents the incidence, type and natural history of hyperlipoproteinemia (HLP) occurring in patients on hemodialysis and with renal transplants.
