The Control of Submaxillary Gland Mucin Production

Part of the book series: Advances in Experimental Medicine and Biology ((AEMB,volume 89))

Abstract

There has been a marked tendency in Biochemistry for too long to concern itself with the anatomic details of the private life of cells in tissues. Needful as this reporting exercise is, it distracts ones attention from function. A collection of gear wheels however finely observed gives no impression of the clock from which they came, nor does the statically reassembled structure indicate its function as a time piece.
