Over the past few years considerable theoretical advances have been made in developing an understanding of the problems of colloid stability. In order to test the various models, it is essential to have colloidal dispersions well defined in terms of particle size, shape, charge, and other characteristics. Until recently, essentially the only such systems have been the monodispersed organic latexes consisting of spherical particles in micron and sub-micron sizes.
