Abstract
“To what do you owe your long life?” is a question that has been asked over the centuries of people fourscore and ten or older. It is not unusual in reading the old uncritical, sometimes metaphysical prescriptions for a long life to find that dietary habits were considered important. The advice, however, was often contradictory and often nonsensical (sometimes intentionally so).
