Coincidence Techniques in High Energetic Heavy Ion Atomic Physics

  • Chapter

Abstract

The excitation process in a heavy-ion-atom-collision is in general rather complex and therefore a reliable theoretical description is only feasible for selected transitions under well defined collision parameters.1) For a well performed experiment therefore it should be the goal to determine simultaneously all these parameters of a collision which are necessary for a precise comparison with the theory. One successful and powerful tool in this sense is aiven by high resolution x-ray or electron spectroscopy2), where in- and outgoing configurations of the collision partners can be identified from the measured energy in a single parameter measurement. This detection technique, however, is limited to a restricted range of investigations.
