Abstract
The first thing behavioral science researchers entering the health field may discover is what many health professionals and biomedical scientists have long known: prevention of disease involves some form of life-style intervention. If psychologists have problems developing successful strategies for modifying lifestyles of the mentally ill, delinquent youth, criminals, or those who are in the throes of poverty, certainly no fewer difficulties are encountered in developing strategies to effect the kinds of life-style modifications that are involved in preventing cardiovascular disease.
