Abstract

A very different breed of women entered college in the mid-19th century as compared with today, and left it to enter a very different world. While much has changed, it often seems that a great deal is constant. The chapters presented here have looked at change. They are rich in detail and variegated. They portray this complexity in their substance. As we summarize we will try to extract a number of themes that seem to run through the book illustrating the kind of change and the continuities that seem to have occurred. They will explore the kinds of concerns that grip us as we stand questioning where we are going from here.
