Achievements in Perinatal and Maternal Health: Survival in Japan

  • T. Wagatsuma

Abstract

Probably one of the greatest tragedies for a family or a local community is the death of a child, a mother, or both during pregnancy, parturition, or after the child has been born. To some extent, the quality of obstetrical care of a region or a country can be evaluated by studying the area’s perinatal and maternal mortality rates. It can be said that the lower these mortality rates, the better the obstetrical care available in that area.
