Abstract
Hyperbilirubinemia remains as one of the most common problems in any neonatal unit. Its causal relationship with kernicterus and subsequent death has been well established. For those who survive kernicterus, the most commonly reported sequelae are choreoathetosis, asymetrical spasticity, sensorineural hearing impairment and mental and/or motor retardation.
