Abstract

Epichlorohydrin, \(\overline {O - C{H_2} - C} H - C{H_2}Cl\), is an important industrial chemical used in the production of many chemical compounds and polymers. Commercial U.S. production of epichlorohydrin was 550 million pounds in 1975, a 70% increase over the amounts produced in 1969. Its major uses are in the manufacture of glycerol and epoxy resins; other products in which it plays a role include emulsifiers, lubricants, dyestuffs, surfactants, and adhesives.

With the collaboration of B. Gledhill, T. Kada, A. Leonard, M. F. Lyon, V. Mayer, G. Newell, R. A. Nilan, G. Obe, I. F. Purchase and F. Zimmerman.
