Structure-Property Interplay in the System RTiO3: R = Lanthanide (III)
Few systems illustrate the subtle interplay between structure and physical properties as dramatically as the series RTiO3, R = lanthanide(III), 4fn and Ti(III), 3d1. To amplify this statement the crystal structure of this series will be described and the feature or features most crucial in determining physical properties will be identified. We will then examine selected physical properties to see how they vary as a function of the crucial structural parameters.
