Abstract

Before a solid electrolyte is utilized for research purposes or practical devices, it has to be fabricated into the desired shape and size out of a single crystal or a polycrystalline material. The common shapes are disks, tubes, and crucibles. The electrolyte sometimes has to be joined to metallic, ceramic, or glass components. In all applications, the electrolyte has to be contacted with an appropriate metallic or nonmetallic electrode in solid or liquid state. These aspects are discussed in the present chapter.
