Bremsstrahlung and Recombination Phonons Studied by Al-PbBi Heterojunction Spectrometer

In the past no practicable phonon spectrometer was available. Consequently the precise shape of many phonon sources was in doubt and the investigation of inelastic phonon scattering processes was difficult. Only very recently I reported that superconducting tunnel junctions made of A1 and PbBi can be used as a spectrometer.1 In this paper I will briefly review the technique, and present results on the spectra of bremsstrahlung and re-combination phonons emitted by a Sn-Sn tunnel junction.
